Mark Kayne Biography

Mark Kayne was born in Chicago in 1957 and was raised in Northern California. As a youngster, his father introduced him to the outdoors while hiking, camping and bird watching. Later, following a traditional but rigorous educational path, he lost touch with nature. His education concluded with medical school and residency training. He began his career as a successful Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon in 1987. While practicing medicine, a series of personal tragedies caused him to seek fulfillment beyond his career. Over time, he renewed his interest in nature and photography and began concentrating on dramatic landscapes. Now, utilizing exclusively 4X5 inch large format color photography, he works deliberately to capture vivid and extremely sharp images of the American landscape.

His works are meticulously printed from transparencies to 20X24 and 30X40 pictures with extreme edge to edge sharpness, three dimensionality and a rich color palette, before being individually signed, numbered and archivally overmatted. Many admirers of the clarity of the photographs describe the sense of walking into the scene itself. His works are currently displayed in many private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
